The Man Behind the Humidor
PC Case Mod |
|
|
My name is Jeffrey Stephenson. I am 50 years young
and reside in the back woods of Northern Florida.
I have worked as an engineer, accountant and most
recently, an IT Director.
My first computer, which I still have, is a Texas
Instruments TI-99 4/A I bought in 1983. I love the
way it looks with its black case trimmed in brushed
aluminum. I hated the IBM PC because of its beige
industrial ugliness. I have been obsessed with the
aesthetics of computers ever since those early days.
I have always dreamed of building my own computer,
my way. When the cost and size of components finally
came down to my level I acted on it. In June of 2002
I built my first Humidor PC and wrote a tongue-in-cheek
story to go with it. Several web sites picked up on
it as a humor story and published it as such. After
people stopped laughing they stopped and thought about
it a while. I started getting e-mails from people
how they would rather have a nice looking wood box
on their desk than a noisy, ugly, beige computer case.
The Humidor PC Mod was born, which basically states
that "it doesn't have to be ugly".
Case modding, as this thing I do is called, is very
rewarding for me because it allows me to express both
my artistic side and my engineer, problem solving
needs.
In the immortal words of I don't know who......
"If your work talks for itself, don't interrupt."
